Double Bass Workshop

Used Romanian spirit varnished laminated bass in great shape.  Plywood top and back with carved sides.  Some flame on the back and sides.  These basses are some of the best sounding plywood instruments available.  Comes with a nice bag and bass stand.

Shen SB180 Hybrid bass.  Set up with a Despiau bridge, Ulsa endpin, ebony tailpiece and Obligato strings.  Nice flame in the back, sides and neck.

From the Calin Wulter workshop.  Round back bass with sloping shoulders for better access to the upper register.  41.75" string length. Set up with a nicer Despiau bridge, Ulsa endpin and Pirastro Evah Pirazzi Weich strings.

Laminated top, sides and back.  41.5" string length.  Set up with a Despiau bridge, Ulsa endpin, rosewood tailpiece and Obligato strings.  Affordable, good sounding bass that's set up well.

Carved spruce top with laminated sides and back.  Nice oil varnish.  41 3/8" string length.  Despiau bridge, Ulsa endpin, Ebony tailpiece, Obligato strings.  Great for jazz or for someone looking for an affordable bass with a better bowed sound than a plywood bass.

Carved, roundback bass with back and sides made from willow.  Wide bouts and deep ribs with a 41.5" string length.  Golden brown oil varnish.  Set up with a Despiau bridge, Ulsa endpin.  Comfortable neck with a 'D' shaped profile. Bel Cantos seemed a bit dark sounding for this bass but Obligatos are making it pop. Plenty of low end.

This is an interesting design:  Carved spruce top, solid willow ribs and a flat laminated back. This bass has broad upper bouts and deep ribs - 9 inches at the lower bouts.  41.5" string length.  Set up with a Despiau bridge, Ulsa endpin and Pirastro Obligato strings.  Slightly brighter than the Shen Willow 3/4 with plenty of bass response.

New Romanian bass made by the Calin Wulter Workshop.  Round back, 41.75" string length.  Nicely shaped neck.  The wood was well chosen:  medium wide grain, two piece top and the quartersawn maple back has interesting bees wing figure - looks like Bubinga!.  C extension installed  by our shop.

German 'workshop' round back bass, ca. 1920. No label but likely from Markneukirchen. String length 41 3/4 in.  Smaller neck.

Update: This bass is undergoing the installation of a new neck, fingerboard and bridge.
