Michael Glass #5
From the Rubner workshop in Saxony we have another Michael Glass design. The flat back and sides are made from maple, and the top is made from straight grain German spruce free of defects. Finished with maroon brown spirit varnish. Some dimensions:
String length 41 1/2″
Lower bout width 24 3/4″
upper bout width 20″
rib depth taper 8″ to 7″
length of back 43 3/4″
We recently had the opportunity to regraduate the top thickness along with a new bass bar, and the sound improved remarkably.`
We also replaced the fingerboard on this bass, and the playing setup is nicely dialed in, plus the neck has a nice size and profile. The sound has good mid range pizzicato punch for jazz, but is equally at home with arco playing.
Set up with a Despiau bridge, Ullsperger tubular endpin and Pirastro Evah Pirazzi strings.
