Romanian Busetto

Sold

This instrument comes from the “Enescu” workshop in Reghin Romania, and features a large gamba form with rounded lower corner blocks in the tradition of Mathias Klotz. The top uses even grained spruce with bearclaw figure, the back is made from highly figured poplar and the sides are made from flamed maple. The choice of wood,  coupled with plenty of antiquing in the varnish along with size and form produces a dramatic visual effect.

Some dimensions:

lower bout width 27 5/8″

upper bout width 21 3/4″

length of back 47″

string length 41 3/8″

This bass has a rumbling low end, but still maintains an even sound across the spectrum.  The body is quite long, but the upper bouts are sloped and the string length is manageable.

Set up with Thomastik Bel Canto strings, best quality Aubert bridge and new Harmony carbon endpin.
