We have another Michael Glass model from the Rubner workshop in Saxony. The top is made from German spruce and the flat back, sides and neck from flamed Bosnian maple. The polished spirit varnish is a reddish golden brown with a bit of antiquing. Gold Rubner French style tuners set off the flame in the neck and scroll. Some dimensions:
String length 41 3/4″
lower bout width 25 3/8″
upper bout width 19 3/4″
rib depth at the lower block 8 1/4″
rib depth at the upper block 7 1/4″
length of back 45 1/4″
This is not a small instrument yet feels manageable, and to facilitate access the top plate overhang is cut back to the rib outline at the upper block. The sound is big with both pizz. and arco. Plenty of low end here and the bass projects over the entire range. As strung now with Bel Canto strings the sound is pleasingly dark but well defined. And with Spirocores this could work as a jazz bass.
Set up with an adjustable Despiau bridge and a New Harmony carbon endpin.
